Countdown to the facelift at Larnaca Marina

The first projects are ready in ’23, they get permits and start work on the wharf next April. Kition Ocean Holdings Ltd is expected to have an answer in the next few days in the request to repair the listed pier of the Larnaca Marina. If the approval is given, then the bidding process starts immediately which should be completed by April, since according to planning, the aim is to start immediately from the 1st of April the repair work on the listed pier. According to the same timetables, the facelift of the listed pier will be completed in a period of nine to twelve months. The cost for the renovation work of the marina listed pier is estimated at around 25-30 million euros, and is expected to be completed by the spring of 2023. Food and drink – In the coming days, the environmental impact assessment study is expected to be submitted to the Environmental Authority According to the CEO of the company Panos Alexandrou, four kiosks will be created on the listed pier which will offer fast food, and hot and cold drinks to the visitors. It is a cafe, an ice cream parlor-creperie, a fast food/bakery and a shop with traditional products. So far there has been no interest from well-known brands, however, well-known brands are not currently, at least, in the company’s priorities. The size of the real estate on the listed pier also “precludes” the expression of interest from restaurant-type businesses. Benches and tables for the public will also be placed in places along the pier, some parts of the pier will be highlighted, maintained, water lighting will be installed. In the existing Nautilus lodge of the sea scouts, a photo exhibition will be hosted about the past, the present and what the marina and the listed pier will be like in the future. The goal, with the development of the project, is to add the corresponding photos, while with its completion, there is an overall depiction of the change from yesterday to today. As part of the listed pier’s facelift, the existing crane will also be restored and repositioned to become a landmark for the marina. Demolition of illegal properties within the marina will also proceed to create new storage areas for boat and car parking, and then the existing office will be repaired. All the works, the cost of which is estimated at around 25-30 million euros, are expected to be completed by the spring of 2023. Subsequently, the next phases of the project will proceed. The first phase of the project, with the new platforms, piers, etc. has a five-year implementation horizon. The rest of the project will take another seven years. Thus, in order to complete all the designs of the Larnaca marina and port redevelopment project, it will take a period of twelve years. By the spring of 2023, it is estimated that work will begin on the project’s first five-star hotel in the marina. The company is currently in contact with various international chains in the tourism and hospitality sector, while the fact that at this point Larnaca does not have a significant presence in the luxury hotel sector seems to be an issue, apart from perhaps the relatively recent addition of the Radisson Blu international chain. Based on the plan, there is a provision for the creation of a second hotel between the port and the marina which will also be five-star, the works of which will start in 2027. A photo exhibition about the past, present and how the marina and the listed pier will look like in the future shall be hosted at the existing Nautilus sea scout lodge.

Message from Panos Alexandros about the port and marina of Larnaca

With a spirit of cooperation and hard work, the project of the unified development of the Port and Marina of Larnaca, will become a strong pole of development, not only for the city of Zenon, but also for the whole of Cyprus, as stated by the CEO of Kition Ocean Holdings Mr. Panos Alexandrou. Addressing boat owners and marine tourism professionals, Mr. Alexandrou emphasized that everyone’s cooperation is valuable. He added that there should be no concerns and reservations and called on all agencies to work together for the successful completion of the project. Mr. Alexandrou also clarified that the optimization of the services offered, the upgrading of the infrastructure and the strengthening of security, as well as the additional facilities that will be given to boat owners, who will use the area of the Larnaca Marina, will have resulting in a small increase in berthing fees which have not been revised since 2009. The CEO of Kition Ocean Holdings, also pointed out that the fees to be paid will be the same for all boat owners who will dock at Larnaca Marina, existing and new, while he clarified that the increase will be minimal. Regarding the berthing of boats during the works, Mr. Alexandrou emphasized that the creation of new berths in another area has been set as a priority, so that the existing boats can be moved without having to leave the Marina. This, he said, applies to all boats, even tourist cruise boats, that are tied up on the listed pier, which will be upgraded. Making a special reference to the owners of tourist ferry boats, he indicated that with the completion of the project, they will be given a specific space, so that passengers can pass through the new Larnaca Marina, for boarding and disembarking. Our goal, concluded Mr. Panos Alexandrou, is to carry out a landmark project for Cyprus, which will lead us to a new era of development with multiple benefits for the economy and society.
