Press Conference on the "European Maritime Day 2022"

A Press Conference on the events for the "European Maritime Day 2022" was held on Friday the 3rd of June at the offices of CMMI in Larnaca. The European Day is organized for the 2nd consecutive year by the Cyprus Maritime and Maritime Institute [CMMI]. The events will start on the 9th and end on the 13th of June. The European Maritime Day 2022 in Cyprus is sponsored by Larnaca Marina.
The European Day of the Sea is an institution that started a few years ago and is the day that celebrates the sea and is supported by the European Commission. This day is celebrated annually in a specific port city of each country with parallel actions in other cities.
At the conference, speeches were made on behalf of the CMMI by the Managing Director of the Institute Mr. Zacharias Siokouros, on behalf of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the CMMI and Mayor of Larnaca Mr. Andreas Vyras by Mr. Andreas Karakatsanis, member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Team of the Institute, and by Capt. Paris Dimitriou, Director of Larnaca Marina.
Mr. Zacharias Siokouros in his statement said: "It is a great pleasure that we hold this year the European Day of the Sea in Larnaca for the second year. The great success of the event last year is what prompted us to organize it again this year. It is our intention to continue organizing it for many, many years to come and to expand it even further.
The reason that the European Commission has chosen to establish this event is the great importance that the European Commission attaches, but I also believe that many countries around the world, in the importance of the sea. The sea regulates the oceans, it regulates the climate while at the same time it is a source of work, development, research, that is why we have every reason to celebrate it. A big goal of this day is to bring the world closer to the sea. To make people realize the importance of the sea to themselves but also to understand how they affect the sea through their activities either in the sea or near it.
For this reason, in recent years there has been a large global movement that you call "Maritime Literacy" which we as CMMI have embraced and try to promote with various initiatives. We thank the co-organizers, who have undertaken some actions and they support this effort of ours. This year we have with us another great companion, our sponsor Kition Ocean Marina which supports us financially, organizationally as well as practically by providing spaces for the realization of events and activities."
Mr. Andreas Karakatsanis on his part stated: "The Municipality of Larnaca has always been an ardent supporter of efforts to strengthen the relationship with the sea. Also one of the 3 pillars of the Municipality is the support of the Blue Sea. We want with his help too CMMI to break the barrier that exists between the residents of Larnaca and the sea, and for the citizens not to view the sea only for bathing, but to expand this relationship with the sea and with other activities. Last year it was a very successful event and for this reason this year several new organizers and more actions were added in different parts of the city. We thank all the organizers who will participate and I expect that we will have great success in this year's event as well. We also express our warm thanks to the sponsoring company, Larnaca Marina"
The Director of Larnaca Marina Capt. Paris Dimitriou speaking at the conference said: "It is nice that today I am before you and I have to refer to the European Maritime Day 2022 representing the Larnaca Marina. The sea is a strong part of the organization of Kition Ocean Marina, the Consortium that undertook the project of redevelopment of the Marina and Port of Larnaca. When we were presented with the proposal from the Cyprus Maritime and Maritime Institute [CMMI] to become a sponsor, support and actively participate in the event, we did not hesitate, we responded positively. We saw this as an opportunity to strengthen a great institution organized by an Institute based in the city, pioneering and serving excellence in its field. At the same time, we wanted to bring Larnaca Marina even closer to the public of Larnaca and not only by demonstrating once again our intention to become a strong component of the life of the city.
Larnaca Marina is moving into the new era. The aim is to create a unique year-round destination, capable of serving and accommodating all types of yachts and providing services that satisfy demanding owners as well as crews, clients and visitors. The new Larnaca Marina will be a unique project in an ideal location that can combine high-level services, flexible accommodation and extremely easy access to services and activities.
Finally, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to CMMI for the opportunity but also the cooperation and to we wish every success in the organization of the European Maritime Day 2022."
